Youth on Course
The SCGA Foundation Youth On Course program creates affordable access to golf for youth by establishing $1-$5 green and range fees at local golf facilities during off-peak hours. Participants get certified for Youth on Course upon successful completion of a series of online quizzes that include golf rules, etiquette and Life Skills.
Through a partnership with the NCGA Foundation, Youth On Course is a statewide initiative. Both Foundations believe that golf teaches integrity, character and responsibility in a way that few other activities can match. With affordable access to golf, the game will continue to grow, but more importantly, youth will have the opportunity to experience the life skills that the game teaches on a regular basis.
Details on the program can be found at: http://www.scga.org/youthoncourse
To register for the YOC program please follow these steps:
-
SCGA Membership: Your Youth on Course membership for 2012 will be provided directly by the SCGA Foundation, and can be accessed on the Foundation's website beginning Nov. 15. Your club will no longer provide your Youth on Course membership.
-
Membership Fee: There will be a $50 fee to be a Youth on Course member. Each additional junior family member (ages 8-17) at the same address will pay $25. The membership fee will include your membership to the SCGA, and you will continue to use the same SCGA number. Financial assistance is available and more information can be found on the website. Please note, IF YOU RENEW BY DECEMBER 30, YOU WILL SAVE 10% OFF YOUR MEMBERSHIP.
-
Unsupervised Access: Starting in 2012, you must be at least 13 years of age and have an established SCGA Handicap Index to receive unsupervised status (if you do not have an updated Handicap Index with recently posted scores, you will receive a Supervised Youth on Course credential). Youth on Course members will be able to request an upgrade to Unsupervised status at any time throughout the year once requirements have been met. A golf coach or course professional will need to complete a document approving all requests. Any Youth on Course members who do not meet these requirements will be provided with Supervised access.
-
Online Quizzes: Online quizzes must be taken annually to remain certified for the Youth on Course program. Upon successful completion of the quizzes, a 2012 Youth on Course bag tag will be mailed directly to the member.
-
Youth on Course Access: In order to access the Youth on Course facilities, a member must have BOTH an SCGA membership card and Youth on Course bag tag. 2012 SCGA membership cards will arrive with the January issue of FORE Magazine for those who renew before the end of the year. Youth on Course rates are only available to members who provide both forms of documentation.
-
Range Access: Starting in 2012, range fees will be $2 at the majority of facilities. This fee will help us maintain the program so that all 3,500 juniors have access throughout the year.
-
Youth on Course Alumni Club: Are you a high school graduate who would like to keep your SCGA membership? The SCGA Foundation is starting an Alumni Club that will provide you with the same privileges as an SCGA member. If you are interested in joining or finding out more information, email youthoncourse@scga.org.
